Garrison Crossing first bridge erection scheduled for July 28

The first of the Garrison Crossing’s two bridge structures will be hoisted into place in the early hours of Saturday, July 28.

Once completed, the Garrison Crossing pedestrian and cycle bridge will create a vital connection between Trinity Bellwoods Park in the north and the Fort York grounds in the south.

The installation of the stainless steel bridge, the first of its kind in Canada, is being led by CreateTO on behalf of the City of Toronto's Waterfront Secretariat.

Garrison Crossing will comprise two bridge spans, which will be lifted into place by a 600-tonne crawler crane. During the lifting of the first bridge connecting the South Stanley Park Extension to the Ordnance Triangle, a portion of the Kitchener rail corridor will be closed overnight to allow the crane to swing the 52-metre north bridge into place.

The installation of the second bridge span over the Lakeshore West rail corridor is anticipated in September.

Hoisting of the bridge into place may cause noise from 12am to 5am over these two weekends. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Due to the health and safety considerations associated with the lifting of the bridge and the current site work activity, public viewing will not be accessible on the site.

For more information about the project, please see the latest Construction Notice.
