Garrison Crossing Update
May 2017
Welcome to the Garrison Crossing Update!
Thank you for signing up for updates on the Fort York Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge.

The bridge project has a new name – Garrison Crossing.
Adopted by Toronto and East York Community Council earlier this year, Garrison Crossing was selected based on the area history. Formally known as the Fort York and Pedestrian Cycle Bridge, the design concept for the bridge was inspired by the fact that the entire area was part of the original Garrison Common Military Reserve, and the bridge is located where Garrison Creek meandered through a marshy valley. Signs for Garrison Crossing will be integrated into the landscape adjoining the north and south landings. We have a new website name: garrisoncrossing.mmm.ca

Bridge foundations are in.

You may have seen steel bridge foundations (pictured above) being driven into the land at the future South Stanley Park Extension, the future Ordnance Park and Garrison Common over the winter months. The process of drilling the foundations is one of the first steps in bridge construction to ensure the weight of the bridge is supported.

Did you know: There are eight supports holding the North Bridge and 10 supports holding the South Bridge. Each bridge weighs 220,000 lbs.

Project will be completed by summer 2018.

We have updated our project completion date since we last connected. This updated date will ensure that we coincide with the completion of base park conditions at South Stanley Park and Ordnance Park and have the required access agreement in place with Metrolinx to build over the rail corridor, and that we implement requisite quality control practices throughout the process for this special type of steel. North abutment of the bridge at South Stanley Park Extension is under construction.
